Hi, I'm Jeff.

Senior Director at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, based in Singapore. More than two decades in — still close to the code, still learning.

I'm a technology leader at Oracle, where I'm a Senior Director in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and help drive our Java Management Service — leading a team of around fifty engineers spread across several geographies. My days are a mix of strategy, roadmap, and delivery, but I came up through engineering and I've never wanted to lose touch with how the software actually gets built.

I've spent more than two decades at Oracle, growing from a development manager working on media and storage technology into leadership roles across DevOps, emerging tech, and cloud. Along the way I led the Agile and DevOps transformation for Oracle's Asia R&D Center, served as a security lead, and had the privilege of building teams across Singapore and Beijing. What I've learned is that the technical work and the people work aren't really separate — the best engineering happens when a team feels trusted enough to learn out loud.

Youth, community, and giving back

Championing the next generation is close to my heart. I lead the Professional Network for Technology at Yayasan MENDAKI, working to help the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore not just find a place in tech but genuinely thrive in it. Over the years I've served on the National Youth Council, the board of Yayasan Mendaki, and as President of MendakiClub. I also founded Voiddeck Ventures, where we build cloud technology for non-profits and give young engineers real projects to learn on while giving back to the community.

What I believe

I care deeply about fairness, curiosity, and lifelong learning. Lately I've been spending a lot of time thinking about AI ethics and governance — how we build technology that reflects good values, not just good metrics. A line that has stayed with me for years — "My Lord, increase me in knowledge" — is more or less how I try to approach my work, my teams, and this blog. I studied Network Computing at Monash and later went through Stanford GSB's LEAD program, but honestly, most of what matters I've learned by building alongside good people.

What I write about

Engineering leadership, cloud and the Java platform, growing teams, AI governance, and the place where technology, community, and values meet. Sometimes in English, occasionally with a Malay proverb thrown in.
